Evil Eye

Just got back from the eye doctor. Everything’s ok, but look at the state of my pupils right now!

The dilation will wear off in a few hours. Everything is so blurry I can’t really do anything productive (I’m holding my phone about 5 cm from one eye to type this!) plus I have a ruinous headache 🙂

Time to lie down, I guess!

I had this sort of pupil dilation done a few months ago. I actually enjoyed the blurry vision, although I was a little worried about driving. Turned out driving was no problem, it was only near objects that I had trouble focusing on. Working was very difficult as I couldn’t read anything on my laptop screen, and couldn’t place it far enough away where it could still be usable. After a few hours I was fine.

I’ve always wondered why they don’t give eye drops to reverse the dilation after exam is finished.

    The black oil.

As Bernard said, the dilation basically removed my ability to focus on nearby objects (which I can do without glasses). It also ruined far vision, probably because of the glasses. For about an hour, I was basically just lying down doing nothing.

They *do* have drops to reverse it, but they told me it’s “better” to let it fade naturally. No idea why.

About 4 o’clock – seven hours after the dilation – my pupils were still about twice the normal size. My vision by that point was fine though. Right now, about 10 hours after, the pupils are fine but I still have headaches and my eyes still hurt when I blink (likely an after effect from the anesthetic from the pressure test).
