Hands Of The Sun

I decided to bake something for a work Christmas party. It’d been decades since I’d done so and the world was full of anticipation!

As a red-blooded Ozling, the natural choice was of course: Rock cakes!

Start by mixing some self-raising flour, castor sugar and baking soda together. Exact values aren’t really important since as everyone knows baking is an inexact science.

More of an art actually…

Add some unsalted butter, and mix until it’s folded in. Then add sultanas…

A bit of milk, eggs and vanilla…

And mix it all up until it looks like this:

Next I shaped the dough into balls on a baking sheet:

And baked them for about 15 minutes:

Until they came out looking like this!

Wonderful! Who ever said I couldn’t cook!!? These were just like the ones I used to make as a babe.

Here’s me giving them a taste:

And here they are shortly afterwards once I hurled them into the garbage:

The less said about how inedible they were the better! It’ll be a while before I bake again 🙂

If you decide to try again sometime it would probably work better if you cream together the sugar and butter as step 1.
