Here’s what I think of the need for an environmental analysis before power is resumed :<

Finally some news! Earlier this evening I went and had a chat with a power company guy who was sitting in his truck outside the house with the downed power line. Turns out the delay in repairing this pole is due to the smashed transformer having leaked oil into the ground. Now they need to wait for an ‘environmental guy’ to come look at things. The bottom line: he says hopefully we’ll have power by monday night. Which is 2 days from now. Only 6 houses in our street remain powerless – all due to this downed line. Here’s hoping…

Into our second night with no power. We are relying on our fireplace to keep the house above freezing but at this point don’t know if it will work or how long our wood will last. Spoke to a power company rep today who was assessing the damage down the street and she could give no estimate as to when we could see power – only saying thousands are still without. Tomorrow, if our home has dropped even colder (ie. if the fireplace method fails) we’ll probably drive to Rochester to borrow J&J’s generator…
