Years ago there was a type of attraction popular in Florida called ‘mermaid shows’, in which naked or near-naked girls would swim in large glass-walled tanks for the amusement of diners (these were billed as ‘art’, not burlesque). For obvious reasons they went out of vogue, but apparently Seaworld is keeping the dream alive with their ‘pearl diving’ exhibit. This girl ostensibly shows how native divers collect oysters, but in actuality is putting on a show for male park visitors. Don’t worry ladies, a hunky male diver is in the tank as well. Seaworld is nothing if not equal opportunity in it’s delivery of cheese/beefcake 🙂

Seaworld is so dead, and we’re both in ‘cynic mode’. These are the ingredients for a great day! Right now we’re sitting in a theatre awaiting the start of pets ahoy, which the guide describes as: “Dogs, cats, birds and even a pig perform stunts of high action!” This should truly be awesome!! I hope one of the cats is dressed as Ultraman! (the photo is of some candy I bought at Japan Epcot)

The othe thrill ride is Kraken, a psuedo-suspended (your feet hang, but you sit) coaster with an impressive 7 inversions. It was actually a decent ride, if a bit bone-rattling. The drops are bigger than they look because several of them go underground a dozen feet or so. KLS didn’t ride this, which was probably wise because she would have been terrified. Was I scared? Not at all. After Tokyo’s Thunder Dolphin no lesser coaster will ever scare me!
