Welcome to the USA!

My parents fly in today. They’ll be spending a couple of weeks with my brother in California before they come out here to stay with us for a little over a week.  Here’s hoping you enjoy America mum and dad 🙂

Happy Father’s day today, by the way, to all deserving.

We went to Indian Ladder Farms (a local farm/shop) earlier today to see their baby animals. However the advertising was a bit misleading, because most of them were the biggest ‘babies’ you’d ever see! The rabbits in particular were amusing: the ‘babies’ were just full-sized rabbits. But we may believe they were actually babies since the mother was gargantuan. I took some photos…I’ll post them later if they turned out.

It’s hot out and I’m down and uncomfortable today. In a week we’re off to Puerto Rico for our brief vacation. I know I’ll enjoy it; I just wish I could be more enthusiastic. Maybe after I get past this next week of school (which has been tedious recently…)

My Names Day?

When we were kids we celebrated names day, which was the feast day or the saint we were named after. Mine is June 6.

The Catholic church designated June 6 as the feast day of Blessed Robert Salt. Blessed is one step below Saint, but since he’s been Blessed for hundreds of years I figure he’ll always remain that way. There are other Saint Robert’s (quite a few in fact), each with their own feast day (one, for instance, has June 7) but for some reason in our family we always celebrated mine on June 6.

Anyway names day is a time of great celebration and – more importantly – abundant bestowing of gifts. I haven’t celebrated it in quite some time (say, 25 years) but I have decided to resurrect it this year.

I can’t wait to see what I get 🙂

A Wee Bit Unfit?

According to Wii Fit, my physical age is 35. At 167 lbs, I’m also a tad overweight. My self-set goal (which Wii Fit will assumedly help me reach) is to lose 7 lbs in a month. Can I do it? I hope so?

To that end, and because it’s nice out today, I broke out the bicycle for the year’s first ride. After filling the tires and testing the brakes I belted off as fast as I could go along a route KLS & I term ‘the long way’. The temperature was perfect, but the wind was strong, and riding against the wind was not only difficult but with pollen filling the air made me feel like I was swimming through an ocean of allergens.

Runny nose, sore eyes and being defeated by the ‘school hill’ hardly marred the enjoyment of the ride. I’m exhausted now, but it was worth it 🙂
