Yesterday I flew cross country…

And found myself here…

And then ran into this fellow…

And I think I’ll stick around a while and have some fun…

Zoffy Update!

Friday, April 12th, 2019

We’ve had little Zoffy for two weeks now and she is settling in well.

About a week ago we let her out of the room she first stayed in and into the entire house. She was a bit nervous at first but in a day or so had finished exploring every conceivable nook and cranny and had claimed the house as hers.

Of course this means she’s now met Emi, and I’m happy to say that while they’re not fast friends yet, there’s no major disagreements between them. Zoffy is more nervous of Emi than vice versa though, and tries to avoid getting too close.

Zoffy is quite tall for a young cat, and one of her tricks is to stand up and look at things like a meerkat! (Yes that’s me napping on the couch…) Look at her cute stubby legs…

She loves lazing on the bed, or even sleeping in the laundry baskets…

But more than anything right now she loves playing with the myriad of toys scattered around. This includes things she shouldn’t touch (such as toys on my work desk!) so I have to keep a close eye on her to make sure she’s not getting into trouble.

She’s very active, very hungry and loves attention so never runs from a pat. The only quirk that I hope she grows out of soon is she is terrified of the TV πŸ™‚

Needless to say she’s filling a void with her cuteness and our smiles πŸ™‚

Introducing Zoffy!

Saturday, March 30th, 2019

Meet Zoffy, the newest member of our family:

Zoffy is seven months old and we adopted her from a rescue agency two days ago. She was found in a junkyard with her mum and three siblings, and rescued when she was only three weeks.

She’s very shy of course, since she suddenly has new parents and a new home. She was housed (at the rescuers home) in a basement even without windows so I’m sure she’s overwhelmed.

But she’s very interested in us, more so all the time, and seems to be becoming comfortable in the bathroom where she will ‘live’ until at least after her first vet visit.

She’s extremely cute with a soft meow and loud purr. Emi is of course insanely curious about her, and sits outside the bathroom meowing a lot. I have a feeling they’ll get along πŸ™‚

I’m sure you’ll see lots more Zoffy on here as the years go by!

Farewell, Beloved Yossie

Friday, February 15th, 2019

Yesterday suddenly and unexpectedly we lost our sweet cat Yossie to a presumed heart attack. She was twelve.

Yossie entered our lives as a rescue cat and she was apparently found by a dumpster. She was tiny and cute and immediately filled our home with her energy.

I bonded with her quickly and she became ‘my’ cat. She was as interested in and comfortable with me as I was her.

She seemed to change overnight from a sleek kitten to a giant cat but she never lost her looks. Everyone that met her commented on how pretty she was, and how expressive her face. I think this was partially because of her ‘mascara’ – the white fur that surrounded her eyes.

Yossie’s been all over this blog her entire life. Most any activity I did she involved herself in, and there’s endless photos of her playing with legos or assisting me with model kits or just resting in my lap while I played games. If I was interested in something, so was she.

She had her own routines as well. Here you see her propping herself up on the wall to wash her belly. She also had a daily ‘follow the sun’ routine where she’d move around the house with the sun shining through the windows. She loved her toys, her treats, and her naps.

Yossie was always gentle and sweet. Never angry, never sad. Always forgiving. Always loving. I’ll never forget her face, and her meows, and how she brightened up my life.

Yossie died in her sleep, curled up on the couch where I usually sit. She looked peaceful, and beautiful. We’re very sad now, because the hole she leaves will not easily fill, but at the same time I know Yossie had a wonderful life and was loved absolutely.

She would often dream while she slept, twitching and quietly meowing. I hope her last dream was a happy one, in which she was having fun with her toys and eating treats and with me – her ‘dad’ – happily by her side πŸ™

Tokyo Brothers

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019

Those of you that follow me on Twitter would have seen a series of daily collages featuring the two of us in Japan. This post features those photos with description.

This was the first, taken at Adores arcade in Ikebukuro. I took the snap of Bernard first, then as we were leaving posed myself with the intention of reproducing the pose of the girl on the right, forgetting Bernard had done the same thing. When I reviewed my snaps later that night I noticed the similarity and a blog series was born!

These were taken outside Tokyo Tower. We’re both standing in front of a large poster put there undoubtedly for selfie purposes. Making these photos daily required scaling and occasionally rotation of the base images so they were best when taken from a distance.

This was taken at the very top of Skytree, which had a special Kingdom Hearts 3 exhibit. We’re both holding the keyblade in a diorama once again installed for photo purposes. I very much like the lighting on Bernard in his shot.

At Akihabara out on the street. This was a window display outside one of the first big game centers near the station. When we returned several days later these posters had been replaced!

Taken at Tokyo Disney, specifically in the Cinderella walk-through exhibit in the castle. The back of the seat has LED lights built into it that animate through a pattern, so we had to time the shots to get similar lighting. I like my pose πŸ™‚

Taken at Nakano mall, posing at the photo-op board featuring their mascot Pipi. It was for kids and we had to contort ourselves to get low enough to put our heads through. Bypassers looked at us curiously…

Once again in Akihabara, standing before a giant poster advertising the new Hatsune Miku cosmetics line. It was very pretty art, but she’s devilishly holding a lipstick with ‘Eat Me’ written on it!

Looking through my snaps, in the 600 or so photos I kept from Japan there’s only 4 that feature the two of us. Three of them were already shown in my blog posts during the trip but I particularly like this last one of us taken on the final full day:

Japan was a nonstop and fantastic end to an overall amazing 25-day vacation. Australia and Japan in one trip?!? How am I going to ever top that??
