Robot Claw

Into our second night with no power. We are relying on our fireplace to keep the house above freezing but at this point don’t know if it will work or how long our wood will last. Spoke to a power company rep today who was assessing the damage down the street and she could give no estimate as to when we could see power – only saying thousands are still without. Tomorrow, if our home has dropped even colder (ie. if the fireplace method fails) we’ll probably drive to Rochester to borrow J&J’s generator…

Time to go to bed, almost. We have a raging fire heating our downstairs room. We’ve hung a blanket in the doorway to hold in the heat and it’s actually almost uncomfortably warm in here! Upstairs is another story, chilly at 48F. It’s 20F outside now and dropping, which means the house will be quite cold in the AM. Hopefully power will be restored tomorrow…

Nothing like sitting by the light of a oil lantern reading Retro Gamer while the cold, dark abyss of a powerless Delmar peers in through the doors…

The cause of our outage, several houses down. Many powerlines have branches or full trees on them not fare from our home, so we fear we may be without power for some time. We just moved perishables into an ice-packed cooler. Hopefully we won’t lose too much food. We stocked up on firewood and lamp fuel as well. Tonight the forecast is <10 F, so we’ll probably be close to the fireplace…

Ice storm overnight left us without power. 12 hours and counting. Tree limbs everywhere down in Delmar, plus a few power poles (including 3 houses down from us). Hopefully we won’t be heating by fireplace tonight…
