The Powerhouse Museum is nothing like what I remembered. So much unalike in fact, that I think perhaps I’d never actually been.
Amidst hundreds of fabulous attractions, I liked the mannequins the best…
“Life In The So-Called Space Age”
The trip over was long, and tedious, but uneventful. I’ve been here 3 (4?) days so far and having a blast. We’re both very tired today due to being in the city for the fireworks last night (did you see the ones that were shot from the tops of the downtown skyscrapers???!). Not sure what today’s plans are, maybe we’re off to the races (since everything else may be closed today).
Tomorrow we’re spending with ten of thousands of others at the SCG watching the cricket!
Brief snippets from what’s happened these past days:
– Australia’s Wildlife World
– Skyview Darling Harbour (fab new Ferris Wheel)
– Lots of Japanese TV (thanks Amber!)
– Many items bought for KLS so far (and many more to come)
More detailed entries will follow when I get to Newcastle (this Saturday), but to tie you over here’s a whole bunch of photos:
The above are random shots from around Randwick or the city, plus a few extras. The following are all from Australia’s Wildlife World:
And yes, I took all of them. Although the place was small, it was very well designed and I really enjoyed it.
“His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead.”
– James Joyce
It was a snowfall such as we got on Thursday morning that I imagine could have inspired a line like the one quoted above, from The Dead.
The snow must have drifted down, rather than fell, in a windless early morning, so delicately was it arranged everywhere. Rarely do snowflakes collect intact as they did yesterday morning.
By midday it had part-melted and refroze. It was just a blanket of ice by that point. The individual snowflakes had long since disappeared.
