Attention American Doctor Who fans: BBC America will be showing the 2008 Christmas Special “The Next Doctor” at 9pm this Saturday night (June 27).

Since the SciFi channel has (apparently) passed on the specials, it seems BBC will be showing all of them this year, and quite possible following on next year with Matt Smith’s episodes. This is unusual, since Doctor Who was SciFi’s highest rated show. At any rate, the first of the 2009 specials, “Planet of The Dead”, will screen on BBC America on July 26.

In addition, BBC America will be showing the third season of Torchwood – the 5 episode mini series “Children Of Earth” starting July 19. I’m not sure if it will span 5 weeks or 5 nights, but an extended trailer suggests it will be something to see. If you’re lucky enough to get BBC HD (alas, we don’t) they are also showing Children Of Earth in HD!

The other day, in Target, I found a most unusual example of this same figure on the shelves:

At first I thought it was a very, very unusual manufacturing error, but after some inspection it was obvious that someone had done this intentionally. It seems they had removed some tape on the back just enough to squeeze out the figure and replace his head and weapon (with the head from a GI Joe figure I believe), and then packaged it back up with such skill it wouldn’t be obvious to most people it had ever been opened.

My guess is this was done as a gag, and then returned to the store in the hope it would be restocked.
